Learn how to make these adorable farm chickens out of fabric to use as a garland over your kitchen window or as an ornament for your Christmas Tree. These cute chickens can be a great gift for your loved ones and are very simple to make.

How To Make DIY Farm Chicken Fabric Garland


1. First, print out the pattern on a A4 paper size.

Choose the fabric of your choice. I recommend using natural cotton with cute cottage-core inspired prints.

Fold the fabric in half, place the body part pattern and trace with erasable fabric marking pens. Leave 3 cm for the seam allowance. Secure the pattern to the fabric with securing pins and cut out two pieces of chicken body.

Cut out 2 pieces of combs and 2 pieces of wattles with a contrasting color. Secure wattles and combs on each body part, placing them face to face. hand stitch or machine stitch along the edge of the body. Then iron the seam allowance and sandwich each body part face to face. Secure with securing pins.

Sew along the edge all around the body and combs and wattles, leaving just a small opening along the breast area to turn over. Stuff with the fiber filling and close the opening with a ladder stitch.

Fold the contrasting fabric in half and place the heart wing pattern . Trace the heart and secure the fabric with pins. Sew along the edges leaving a small opening on the side. Afterwards, cut around the seam edges making a few clips along the curved edges. Turn the heart over and close the opening with the ladder stitch.

Secure the heart wing to the body with an embroidery thread using the cross-stitch technique.

Create tufts on the tail by inserting the needle with an embroidery thread inside the wing and pulling it out on the right side. Stitch a knot by pulling the needle through the layers to another side. Tighten the thread to make tufting.
Using a black embroidery thread, stitch an eye using the same method as for tufts.

Use a long piece of twine to pull through each chicken to create a garland or make individual ornaments. All done! Enjoy your farm chickens!
